The impact of music

Perhaps no other art form throughout recent history has had a bigger impact on the world than music. Music is virtually everywhere. It’s on the radio, played in grocery stores, retail stores, and many other types of businesses. It’s in television commercials, appears on TV shows, and is played at many different festivals and group events.

It’s hard to deny the impact music has had on society. During the summer of 1969, John Lennon wrote and recorded one of his many famous hits “Give Peace a Chance”. The song spoke out against war and sparked a huge revolt against the Vietnam War. A few months later on October 15, the song was sung by over 500,000 demonstrators in Washington, D.C. to protest the Vietnam War. Among protestors was the famous singer Pete Seeger. Because of the impact John Lennon had on American politics at the time, the CIA would later add him to their watch list with the United States government trying to deport him.

Music has made an impression on everything from our daily lives to the political realm. It accompanies us everywhere, from our vehicles to the Internet. It provides a stimulation to people and oftentimes sparks creative interests inside us.

Research has shown listening to music can alleviate bad moods. It can lift your temperament when you’re depressed and even help you sleep at night. Of course different genres of music can do different things, with classical music said to spark intellectual interests and ideas and rock music is thought to energize and excite people.

Music can also be a great way to bring people together. Live concerts are a great way to meet new people who are interested in the same style of music as you. Music can be a great way to start a conversation with someone you are meeting for the first time.
