The Saints Row series follows the character of a street gang member in his quest to be the boss of the gang. For the fourth installment, the wackiness is multiplied tenfold. Your character, known as the Boss, is now the President. During your inauguration as the Boss, you get abducted by aliens. Your abductor, an alien named Zinyak, wants to conquer Steelport (the city where Saints Row takes place), the world and possibly the universe.
Being the sociopathic overlord he is, Zinyak decides to place you and your crew in a virtual simulation to live out the rest of your lives. Luckily for you, one of your crew members was able to free herself. With her help, you begin the journey to free your crew and yourself from an alien hellbent on keeping you in a virtual simulation for the rest of your life.
Throughout the series, your character can be shaped to your liking. The storylines are open-world, meaning you can do your missions how and when you want. The gameplay is similar to other open-world games like Grand Theft Auto and the upcoming Watch Dogs. You’re able to steal cars, shoot and kill people with absurd objects.
Keeping with the open-world idea, there’s plenty to do in Steelport. In addition to the normal gameplay, you’re able to achieve and use superpowers within the simulation. The usage of powers gives the game a Prototype feel, adding to the fun. You also have the ability to play online co-op or alone which adds to the already intense game.
I’ve only played through a third of the game and I’m hooked. I can’t seem to get enough of it. As a gamer, I love it. It’s absurd and it’s off the wall.
I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
