Three best tinted moisturizers for the winter season

Nobody likes using a foundation that dries out your face, and as we all know Virginia weather is bipolar at best.

Tinted moisturizers are usually considered best for the summer season; in truth, a good tinted moisturizer can last until the winter months if you know which ones to use. A lighter foundation is generally better for your skin than something thick that hides all of your flaws. All of the products are fairly inexpensive, so you don’t have to worry about paying an arm and a leg for them.

The best tinted moisturizer for dry skin is the Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. Unfortunately it only ranges from fair to medium, as do many other brands of tinted moisturizer. This is a serious flaw in the cosmetic industry which a lot of women with darker skin tones have to navigate around.

During the summer months, this moisturizer can slip all over your face and make you look shiny and greasy, particularly if you have combination skin. It’s better-suited for dry skin because more moisture absorbs into it, which may leave you with a slightly dewy finish. It does prevent your nose from chapping reasonably well, so this is a good pick if you wind up getting a cold or have terrible, year-long allergies.

Many brands, like Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown and Lancome offer tinted moisturizers for all skin tones, but they are a little pricey. A few of my friends have tried the Iman BB Cream and have positive things to say about it regarding both price and effectiveness, though I’ve never tried their products.

A good tinted moisturizer for combination skin is the Oil of Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream. It provides a little more coverage and a little less moisture than the other two, but in terms of coverage it’s awesome. It feels wonderful on skin that’s been exposed to cold temperatures and doesn’t cause break-outs. Unfortunately, this is another pick that doesn’t come in darker shades, so keep that in mind when you’re shopping for a new moisturizer.

The Sonia Kashuk Tinted Moisturizer is a little better about offering tinted moisturizers in darker shades and is a good all-around foundation. It’s a fantastic moisturizer for all skin types, but I would particularly suggest this product for oily skin because it’s one of the only products that doesn’t slip all over your face. If applied correctly, the tinted moisturizer can last all day and make your skin feel silky and smooth hours after you wash it off. Sonia Kashuk carries a wider variety of shades; it also provides fantastic coverage.

These picks are good for winter because they prevent damage to the skin while also keeping the moisture balance in your face consistent with your skin sans makeup. They’re also not as expensive as many of the higher-budget tinted moisturizers.
