Boudoir style
By Heidi Chantry on Thursday, November 5th, 2009This season is about personal style more than ever. Whether you decide to be a fashion chameleon or you tend to stick to one look, this fall season offers something for everyone. This fall is about personal style, and there are many trends appearing. Each week I am going to focus on a new trend springing up.
This week we are delving into the world of Boudoir style for all you sensual vamps out there. I am loving this seasons Parisian-inspired looks. Now this is a very tricky look to pull off, so let me go through the fabrics and accessories one-by-one.
The Parisian style features a mix of lace, leather and silk. This is mainly a look for nights out and can very easily go from sexy to skanky. As always if you’re wearing this look of top, pair it with a conservative bottom (see Charlize Theron), or if you want to sport a lace mini, wear it with a cute silk blazer. Also a great look for a night out, is a pair of cropped lace leggings with an oversized white shirt and a classic pair of pumps.
First off are headpieces. This looks great on the runway and in classic films, but to quote Laura brown, “legendary fashion editor Anna Piaggi is the only, repeat only woman who can get away with a headpiece.”
If you want to have fun with the look, turn your attention to piling on necklaces. It looks great to pile a bunch of pearls (faux or real) or to stack on a handful of metallic necklaces together.
For makeup be sure to wear either a smoky eye or seductively classic red lips but please keep the looks separate when going dark on top; stick to a pale lip and vice versa.
For those scared to try new trends or may those who may not have the confidence to go all out boudoir, throw a lace clutch and lacy peep toes with the perfect little black dress, or even your newly purchased black leggings and a white button up.
A general rule of thumb to follow is that if you feel you’re too bare, throw something else on. No one wants to be asked if they have had much business that night.
The last rule of thumb to follow is your color palate. This look is mainly seen in black and white but can also be seen in colors ala Moulin Rouge like dark red, silver, grey, charcoal, navy, cream and emerald.
