The Gift

I love them all.

I choose this life of hardship, this life of suffering so that others don’t.

I will trade my life of peace for a moment of war.

I will give up my happiness for the gift of protection.

I will sacrifice salvation for eternal damnation.

So that others may live.

I choose this because I was born for this purpose.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates (R) hands a challenge coin bearing his name to a soldier as he thanks troops for their service at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Walton in Kandahar, Afghanistan, June 5, 2011. The gradual withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Afghanistan set to begin next month will be done responsibly and will not expose other coalition and Afghan forces to undue risks, Gates said on Sunday. “I will give up my happiness for the gift of protection.”

I am created to serve, not claim glory, honor, or prestige but for the sole purpose of defense. Take my years of life and prosperity and gift me the ability to beat my enemies.

The conviction to never accept defeat.

The will to never surrender

I do not ask for your forgiveness God, nor your blessings ancestors.

I ask only that you allow me to give up paradise for a life of hell.

Give up who I am

To become what is needed.
