Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
By Heidi Chantry on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009On December 1, 2009 the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show aired on CBS. It is known as soft porn by the men watching and envy and inspiration for the many women who tuned in for the 10p.m. show. The show opened to “The Battle” by Hans Zimmer. The show was divided into six acts; the central theme of the evening was magical journeys.
The first act opened with the Black Eyed Peas performing “Boom Boom Pow” and a futuristic performance by dancers in black leotards and neon prints which glowed in the black light. This set the mood for the first act, which featured space-like costumes while the models walked with a techno rhythm infused with high energy. It was as if each step was its own beat.
Act two began with dancers dressed as Flight attendants dancing with trunk luggage reminiscent of the 1960s. The models walked out to “Sex is on Fire” by Kings of Leon. The outfits had a burlesque feel with thigh highs, garter belts, bows and high cut briefs in silky fabrics. During this act the yearly million dollar bra was revealed, worn by Marissa Miller with a fur shrug.
Act three showcased the popular Pink line. This line is created for a younger customer and tends to be the most fun of the Victoria’s Secret lines. A giant Pink polka dotted dog inflated as the segment opened. Models pranced out to “The Same old Song” by the Four Tops in bright colors that felt like a Crayola box exploded on stage. The colorful outfits had prints similar to comic strips full of peace signs and hearts, signature symbols of the Pink line. The angel’s wings were make out of balloons that made the viewer feel like they were attending a little girl’s birthday party. Models wore fun faux fur dyed to match the colorful outfits marching down the runway. As always, this segment left viewers feeling as though they were in a dream world.
Act four showcased the night’s star performers, the chart topping Black Eyed Peas. They performed “Meet Me Halfway” as the models danced backstage.

Act five left an impression like you had stepped into a Midsummer Night’s Dream; the models were dressed in an enchanted forest-themed Line. Heidi Klum opened the segment just five weeks after giving birth, looking phenomenal as always. The outfits were done in earth tones and neutrals, trimmed with flying insects, flowers, leaves and netting. The angel’s wings looked like enchanted clocks. Models walked the runway with a variety of capes, from flowing to one that brought to mind Little Red Riding Hood. As the line evolved, the looks evoked German heritage with corsets and prints that yodeled Oktoberfest across the Alps. The line finished with dramatic coats in a pigeon silhouette.
The final act was filled with glamour. The line was filled with jewel-tone velvet and lots of jewels. The models sparkled in baroque-style jewelry with giant chokers and bib-like bling. Fur continued through to the final act, this time with a feeling of royalty as models were draped in ermine, a popular fur often seen in pictures of the royal family, noticeable by its pure white color with bits of black. The line finished off a little edgier with sparkling chains and full spectacular feathers. Much like the final act of a performance, this line left viewers in a fairytale land.
This year’s show was as spectacular and fun as ever. Whether you’re a fan of Victoria’s Secret or not, the show is always fun to watch. Some critics complained that the show did not have its traditional Christmas- infused collection. Instead, they chose to tell the story of a wonderful evening that we can all enjoy.
